In this article, I explain the difference between keyword saturation, frequency, prominence and vicinity, and how they affect search engine rankings.

Keyword Density
Keyword density refers to the proportion ( percentage ) of keywords contained within the total number of indexable words inside a webpage.
The preferred keyword density ratio varies from search website to search site. In general, I recommend using a keyword density ratio in the range of 2-8%.
You may like to use this realtime keyword research tool to help you optimize an internet page’s word density ratio.

Keyword Frequency
Keyword frequency refers back to the number of times a keyword or keyword phrase appears within a web page.
The concept is that the more times a keyword or keyword phrase appears within a net page, the more significance a search engine is likely to give the page for a search with those keywords.
generally, I like to recommend that you ensure that the most significant keyword or keyword phrase is the most commonly use keywords in an internet page.
But watch out not to abuse the system by repeating the same keyword or keywords repeatedly again.

Keyword Prominence
Keyword prominence refers to how outstanding keywords are inside an net net page.
The general advice is to place critical keywords at, or near, the beginning of an internet page, sentence, TITLE or META tag.

Keyword Proximity
Keyword proximity refers back to the nearness between two or more keywords. Generally, the closer the keywords are, the better.
for example :
How Keyword Density effects search engine rankings
How Keyword Density effects rankings in search engines
Using the example above, if somebody searched for “search engine rankings” a webpage containing the 1st sentence is much more likely to rank higher than the second.

The explanation is actually because the keywords are placed closer together. This is presuming that the rest is equal, of course.

In todays economic climate it’s more critical then ever to be cautious with your website promotion funds. I am going to attempt to give you some tips and tricks that should give you a massive difference in both costs of marketing and the leads you are going to be able to generate. If you use these strategies it will give you results both short but essentially long-term so hopefully you do not have to buy marketing.

The most effective way to lift your presence online is using free sites and blogs. What you put in is time, to set them up and get some content going. What this could do is give your potential customers multiple ways to find your business online and the more internet sites you’ve got the easier it’s going to be. There’s a sufficiency of free Web 2.0 services out there that may provide free internet sites and blogs. As an example blogger, squidoo, livejournal, blinkweb and so on. Another virtue of using these types of services is they have a tendency to rank highly for search engines so that opens another door for your clients.
An advantage blogs have over websites here is that they can push the new posts to search engines, when using web sites you must wait for the search engines to come find you. If you do not wish to buy marketing this is often a good option.

Personal referral is a very powerful tool when it comes to generating growing businesses leads. This is something social networking platforms like Twitter, LinkedIn and Facebook can help you with. They help you to connect simply with your clients and potential new customers. These services are absolutely free to use and a good way for you to hook up with the folks that are likely to essentially need to hear what you’ve got to say.

An alternate way to drive traffic is to use your e-mail signature line! Just include a link to your blog or site, in addition to the usual contact information. If you would like to take this one step further you can include an offer to extend the chance of somebody clicking the link. Offer something free that may be interesting to someone in your field of business.

Next we have article promotion, a frequently overlooked way to create backlinks to your site. The only cost here is time and it is fairly simple to do. When you are creating your articles make sure you know which keywords you are attempting to target so you can make sure the article is optimized for the given keywords. If done right this can be a powerful internet site promotion methodology.

no matter which method you decide to invest the majority of your efforts in it is important to know that everything you do online will have an impact. Everything you post online will make it easier for possible customers to find your business so just keep working and remember that its a long term investment. Free websites, social networks, blogs or article promotion all work well.
Using these methods combined with a web marketing system should give you an edge on the majority of the competition.

Your work will be rewarded.

The top 5 things you need to consider if you want to get a high search engine ranking.

The first thing you need to consider is the anchor text of the inbound links to your website. Google in particular but all the major search engines out there use the anchor text as a way to learn about your site. They use the link anchor text to get a feel for what your website is all about and in the next step decide what the site should rank high for. What you need to do next is pick out those golden keywords and make sure they are used for your inbound anchor text. Email the websites that have your link up and make sure they update how the link is shown on their pages so it includes your keywords. And also make sure that in all future link building you know which keywords you want to target.
Which keywords to use is something I’ll write about in another article.

The second factor that determines your ranking is the use of your title tag. More specifically how well you use your keywords in it. This refers to both your site and sites linking to yours. This is why it is so important to stay inside your niche and make sure the pages that link to you are relevant to your business. Relevance is a keyword when it comes to “link juice”. The higher quality inbound links the more it will help your website rank well. Make sure your website includes the most important keywords but be careful not to saturate your title tag to much. Keeping it short gives it greater importance and weight.

Third you have link popularity. This phrase is somewhat vague but what SEO professionals generally talk about when they mean link popularity is Page Rank (or Google PR). PR is determined by a range of factors, the largest being how many sites have a link pointed at you. The more PR a inbound link has, the higher PR or link popularity you’ll get. So to sum up, build links from sites that have a high Google Page Rank but also make sure the links are releveant within your field.

Fourth factor I’ll mention is the number of link domains. This is probably obvious to most of you but if you have 100 links coming from the same domain they are not worth nearly as much as 100 inbound links coming from 100 unrelated unique sites (with similar keywords).
Even though all links give you abit of action you should be focusing on getting your keyword optimized links across a wide range of domains in your field.

The last factor is the use of keywords on the domain. Even though subdomains give you abit of action you’ll see alot better results with keyword usage on the root domain level (www.examplekeywords.com). But like I said examplekeywords.domain.com will also provide limited results.
There are ways to outrank sites that have good keyword density in their domain names but you’ll need alot of experience, SEO know how and patience.

Help! What should I blog about? What do my customers read?

Companies operating B2B may sometimes draw a blank in what to blog about on the company blog. I am convinced all the companies that have a blog sometimes feel: Shit! We havn’t blogged anything in a week and a half. We must find something to blog about.

Take it easy and don’t rush. Better to pull the handbrake and reflect at length on what your future and current customers really want to read about before you send up something you don’t believe in. When you have a corporate blog you should ofcourse in my opinion have a strategy on the blog so you don’t find yourself in these situations. But in this post you’ll find nine tips on what you may want to use in your blog strategy.

     * Write about trends
What is a current trend that can be related to your business? Show graph’s like the Google trends example.

     * Upcoming trade show / seminar
“Prepare your readers for the next event” Who wants to come?

     * Use twitters in your company
“Could make it more personal’

     * Future products / services
“What new products will you be releasing? Who wants to be Beta testers? Tell us about your product development. Please leave a teaser.”

     * Competition
“Win our product for one year or something similar.”

     * Your product becoming popular?
“Seize the opportunity. “

     * Have anything interesting happend in your industry not related to your company?
“Answer their questions if they are worried or maybe afraid of your type of product.”

     * Bring up the latest in your industry.
“Trends and fashion”

     * Have you made a gaffe that everybody knows about?
“Perhaps to apologize to your readers. Talk about it and be open to re-establish trust.”

This was a list of nine points that may help you in your business blogging. More related topics exist that you can add to your blog strategy. This will help you get ideas on what to blog about.

There's no two ways about it - SEO is hot again

There’s no two ways about it – SEO is hot again. In the last 6 weeks, SEO companies have received a higher than ordinary volume of requests for consulting. Alongside that venture capital firms show alot more interest then previously. And it’s not just us. The jobs and contracts section of the marketplace has been humming in November, and anecdotal chats with other SEO firms tell me there’s rather a lot of business to be had for both in-house and external SEOs. Online sales, according to Paypal, were up 34% this year over last – another sign that web commerce is a safe harbor for those wanting ROI.

Howcome? What makes SEO more interesting in a down market? While we cannot say for certain, I could enumerate the most typical reasons and inducements I have heard and understood :

1. The Web Outperforms Other Sales Channel
When organizations look at the trails leading to sales and revenue ( a critical research whenever budgets are under inspection ), the web always comes out with one of two assessments. Either it’s a leading sales channel ( especially from an ROI viewpoint ) or it’s identified as an area with the greatest opportunity for growth. In both eventualities, web selling and, in link, SEO, takes center stage.

2. It’s the correct time to Re-Tool
Established firms frequently use down cycles as a chance to focus attention inward and research themselves. Consequently, there’s a spike in website redesigns and SEO together with it.

3. Paid Search Drives Interest in SEO
Paid search spending is still reaching all-time highs, and when corporations evaluate the price tag and value, there is a whinging tiny voice asserting “70%+ of the clicks do not even happen in the advertisements ; use SEO.”

4. SEO is Losing its Stigma
Google is releasing SEO guides, Microsoft and Yahoo! Both have in-house SEO departments and the “SEO is BS” crowd have lost a little of their swagger and a large amount of their arguments. No surprise – solid proof trumps wishful thinking, especially when times are tough.

5. Selling Departments are in a brainstorming Cycle
A high percentage of firms are asking the massive questions – “how do we get new customers?” and “what avenues still offer opportunity?” Whenever that happens, SEO is bound to show up near the head of the “to be investigated” pile.

6. Search Traffic Will Be comparatively unhurt by the Market
Sales might drop, conversion rates might falter a bit but raw search traffic isn’t going anywhere. A recession does not imply that folks stop scanning the web, and with broadband adoption rates, Internet penetration and searches per users consistently rising, search is no trend – it’s here for the long haul.

7. Web Budgets are Being Reassessed
We’ve all seen the news about display advertising falling considerably – that can only happen when managers meet to discuss how to address budget concerns. Get 10 internet marketing managers into rooms with their teams and at least four or 5 are sure to debate SEO and how they can grab that “free” traffic.

8. Someone ultimately Looked at the Web Analytics
It’s gloomy, but true. When a downturn arrives or panic sets in, someone, maybe the first someone in a very long time, checks the web analytics to see where income is still coming in. As expected, search engine referrals with their exceptional targeting and intent-matching are ranking high on the list.

i’d love to hear your experiences – have you seen an uptick in buzz about SEO? Has your agency, consulting practice or company taken a replenished interest in the subject? Why?

I was browsing the web reading about online marketing myths the other day and figured i’d round up some findings i thought was interesting.

Myth 1
Our brand is robust enough not to need support for the duration of the downturn.

Fact : Few brands are powerful enough to survive without advertising, product promotion, and customer service support. Brands need attention, support, strengthening, and polishing, ( the selling equivalent of nutrients, light and water ) or they will wither and shrivel to any shadow of their former self. This isn’t a position you want your corporate brand to be in when the growth engine for the economy revs back up.

Myth 2
If we cut back on selling spending, we will be able to use the money for other stuff internally, and increase the budget when things get better.

Fact : Studies have shown that once that budget gets cut, it requires a herculean effort and a powerful internal champion to boost it back to its former levels.

Myth 3
Nobody’s buying anything, advertising and promotions are a waste of money.

Fact : Many studies conducted by celebrated business publications and school think tanks have come to the same conclusion primarily based on the info they gathered on U.S.and in a few cases globalcompanies : Those that cut back their presence in their key service markets are in a far worse position in terms of profitability, share of the market, and market competitive presence when the downturn eases and profitability growth returns.

Myth 4
We can cut back [on marketing] now, and then ramp up quickly when things get better.

Fact : This strategy has proved disastrous time and time again, especially for firms that have inefficiencies inherent in their design or product delivery channel. That inefficiency won’t let them ramp up swiftly.

Myth 5
We should inspect what’s working for us, and cut out everything else.

Fact : This isn’t truly a myth, but a knee-jerk reaction to a short-term slump in sales gross. Good promoting departments should be doing exactly that on a perpetual basis, not just when times are tougher. Why would any marketer worth their pay continue programs that didn’t work.

Myth 6
Marketing spends extra cash than any other office, they have the most room to cut budget.

Fact : While spending might be a measure of power in some corporate structures, at least informally, return is really what counts when it’s budget review time. Selling is one of the few departments that may essentially point to contributions they make without delay to the bottom line.

Myth 7
All of our competitors are pulling back advertising and media expenditures to save money, so we should, too.

Fact : this kind of lemming-like sheep thinking can destroy your company! If the other kids jump off the bridge, are you going to leap, too? Despite being competitors, their financials likely look slightly different from yours, and it’s stupid to think that you can mirror their moves and achieve success.

a dispatch from DemandGen has released the results of New Years study on successful promoting secrets for living through a downturn. The consensus? Insiders suggest the smart money will flow toward more centered outreach and a renewed emphasis on re-engaging contacts already in the database. Good news for every one of us in digital direct – e-mail marketing and mobile marketing particularly.

The seven key strategies, according to Demand Gen :

1. Send topical targeted messages at the right time and do not overload your best customers.

2. Reduce risk – free trials and guarantees might be better than price slashing over the longer term.

3. Emphasize content over promotion, promotion, promotion.

4. Align messaging about product value to business pain.

5. Invest in your databases.

6. Engage earlier in the shopper lifecycle, then nurture those not really ready to purchase.

7. Concentrate efforts to improve data division.

I could not agree more. And not simply because every single strategy recommended drives the budget-wary marketer to further leveraging their websites and web promotional efforts to supply a triple-threat of content, conversation and community that may, ultimately, deliver increased conversions. Exactly the sort of work we do best!

In this recession, almost every business is looking for paths to either cut down on costs, or my favourite, increase income. One way to increase chances of your own solvency is to widen and have multiple paths to generate earnings or leads. Online there are plenty of ways for possible clients to find you and become buyers. An often-overlooked or misunderstood tool for doing this is search engine optimization or SEO.

Part of SEO is the method of creating content and links to your web site. The idea is that when anyone types a word relating to your company into Google, your business comes up high on the list. You want to rank in the top 10 web sites because they are the internet sites that folks click on the most.

Unlike bought adverts, each page of your website or each press release or blog post is a chance for folks to get info about you. Or to find you. Unlike bought advertisements the effort you put in is permanent it does not stop helping you once you stop paying ( or working ). The SEO work you do now will still benefit you in two years from now or long after the recession is over.

The better part about SEO is that it is reduced cost and extremely effective. The return on your investment over the long-term is fantastic. You can learn lots of the techniques or pay execs to work with you in deciding and implementing the best method. There’s a learning curve ( some simply outsource lots of the more mundane pieces like adding your website to directories ) but the payoff over time is actually worth the effort.

Most firms are already ranking well in search engines for their brand name and branded terms. For example : we rank one for the term OrangeSoda. Obviously that doesn’t help us if someone wants search engine optimization services who have never heard about our business name. If they go to Google and type in those words we would like them to come to us. We would like to rank well for every one of the services we provide.

Many firms don’t rank well for phrases that folk search on ( there is demand for ) relating to their business. This is intended to capture folks ( or other firms ) who don’t know about you but are on the lookout for the products you provide.

Folk are actively looking for information online and are researching the market to clear up a difficulty or find a product. Ideally you are producing well-optimized content that educates potential clients so when they are prepared to make a choice, they find you. You may also build trust so they consider purchasing from you.

As you rank high for phrases in search engines, you’ll get more people coming to your website. You will have more ways to reach them. You will have search results with a diversity of links from credible sources. SEO can also help you tune up your marketing and messaging.

The Net is dynamic and nearly real time so it’s a good way to keep a pulse on business and your potential clients. Just using a keyword tool or a tool like SpyFu can help you understand what folk are searching for and who your competition are. Then you can apply SEO to be high on the list of firms that provide those services.

Each business and web site is different and their SEO wants can be basic or more complicated. Here’s a basic outline of making a search engine optimized web site:

*Identify terms that people are on the lookout for that apply to your business.

*establish the demand and competition for those terms.

*See where you rank in the most commonly used search engines for those keywords.

*Look at your website structure and making sure it’s optimal for search engines to find and index each webpage of your web site.

*Each page is a chance for somebody to locate your website.

*Continue building searchterm-rich material.

*Get links to the diverse web pages ( content ) using search terms as the text of the link.

This is a continual process of refining and building your web site with valuable material that search engines like. Every good SEO company should judge your website and come up with paths to help booster your rank. This may increase traffic to your internet site and your visibility on the web. It is a sensible investment and one that each business with an internet site should consider particularly in rough economic times.

President Obama will be able to close the Internet with the flip of a switch.

Sounds like a joke?

In the cover of counter terrorism the things permitted scares me.
Behind the US bill to “turn off” the Internet is real fear. Next time Al-Qaeda or another terrorist organization strikes, it is maybe not the skyscrapers getting hit, but the network of computers that maintains the United States electricity supply, banking, or anything that would cause chaos in a modern society.
A dark cloud of big brother-see-you over the bill which the politicians can use to force private companies to turn over any records or information referencing the law.

For obvious reasons, people are concerned about what such power could mean in case incorrect actions were taken. Leslie Harris, CEO at the Center for Democracy and Technology, said in a NetworkWorld story, “This is pretty sweeping legislation. Seems the President could turn off the Internet completely or tell someone like Verizon to limit or block certain traffic. There is a lot to worry about in this bill.”

At the moment we don’t see any “big brother” tendencies in Obama but what happens after 2012 is a scary unknown.
Instead of Obama maybe there is a Sarah Palin in the White House.
The will to defend the homeland with any means whatsoever is very strong in the U.S.
Just think about how GW Bush acted after the terrorist attacks on sept 11 2001.
He allowed the interception of telephone calls to over 1,000,000 American citizens. Without the support of any law.
Bush authorized torture as an interrogation method to get suspected terrorists to say what they knew. Some of which were innocent.

When will Americans wake up?
With a vague weblaw behind the government the risk will increase that a president will be tempted to use the methods that many see as a threat to a democratic society. The fact that there are supporters on both sides. Democrats and Republicans who supports the bill increases the possibility that it will be accepted by the Senate. At this time, mostly political commentators and civil rights activists have reacted against the bill. The broad US public doesn’t seem to have a clue that it exists. Reminds me of the resistance to the FRA law in Sweden until the eleventh hour run by a small but vocal group.

There is no doubt that Barack Obama has changed the face of politics in America. And just as Obama is using Web 2.0 in his presidential campaign, so can Web 2.0 give the American people a voice in politics. Obama’s own social network was used to stage a protest of his stance on a federal wiretapping bill, proving that social networking can cut both ways.

Now it’s up to the people to utilize that voice.
The Web should stay a free and growing entity.
